Frequently Asked Questions

Fact-checked answers regarding Auto Timetable Generator features, constraint rules, printing, and setup.

System Capabilities & Workflows

What education modes are supported in the app?

Auto Timetable Generator supports two education modes: COHORT mode (for pre-packaged section schedules in primary and secondary schools) and INDIVIDUAL mode (for elective-based university schedules).

What is the timetable lifecycle status sequence?

Timetables progress through four distinct statuses: DRAFT (initial creation), GENERATING (solver computing), GENERATED (placement complete), and PUBLISHED (active institutional schedule).

Do I need to install software to use the platform?

No. Auto Timetable Generator is 100% web-based and runs entirely in modern web browsers.

Constraint Management & Rules

How are Hard Constraints and Soft Constraints defined in the app?

Hard Constraints are mandatory rules that must be satisfied for a timetable to be valid (e.g. Teacher Non-Overlap, Room Non-Overlap, Teacher Consecutive Limits, and No Gaps for Students). Soft Constraints are optimization preferences (e.g. Spread Subjects Evenly, Balance Teacher Workload, Compress Teacher Days, and Room Stability).

Can I set maximum daily teaching limits for specific teachers?

Yes. In /app/teachers, administrators can set individual maxPeriodsPerDay limits for each faculty member.

How are room types handled for labs and auditoriums?

Rooms are classified by RoomType (CLASSROOM, LAB, AUDITORIUM, OTHER) under /app/rooms. When creating courses in /app/courses, administrators can specify required room types.

Printing & Output Formatting

How do I print or export my generated timetables?

Inside the timetable viewer (/app/timetables/[id]), click the Print Schedule button. This opens your browser's native print interface formatted for landscape printing or saving directly as a PDF document.

Can I filter timetable views by specific teachers or cohorts?

Yes. The timetable viewer includes a view switcher allowing you to toggle between Master Institutional Grid, Specific Cohort View, or Individual Teacher View.

Security & Account Management

How is access control and organization security managed?

Authentication and session validation are enforced via Better Auth. User data is partitioned by organization IDs, ensuring strict multi-tenant isolation.

Where can I manage my personal account settings?

Personal profile settings and security details can be managed under /app/settings/account, while organization parameters are configured under /app/settings/organization.
